Bob's Corner

Meet Robert (Bob) Mugdan

Bob'sPhoto

Bob graduated from Sydney University in 1951 as an Architect. His profession led him into designing a multiplicity of buildings including Hospitals, multi-storied buildings, factories, homes and, I suppose, even the occasional outside toilet.

He was married to Jean, who sadly died in February 2009. He has two adult boys, one an Electronic Engineer and the other is employed by QANTAS managing staff on board their aircraft.

Bob joined our Rotary Club in 1971 and took the classification 'Architecture. He made his first and only mistake early in his Rotary career when, whilst speaking with an incoming President, he commented that Rotary was not satisfying him as he felt under-utilised. Before he could take his next breath, he was signed up as Bulletin Editor for 1972-73 and produced bulletins that were popular and well read. Since then Bob has been well utilised on a variety of tasks that allowed our Club to profit from his many areas of expertise.

Naturally, any building structure, no matter how small, benefited from Bob's design skills. These were supplemented by the building skills of Ken Ewen and, in later years, the engineering experience of Richard Binns.

During his year as President, 1977-78, young people again featured when he took the germ of an idea from a Rotary Club up north and turned it into the Willoughby Careers Market which continued for many years. Stalls and demonstrations would be set up in the Willoughby Town Hall and pupils from local schools would be bussed in. Once there the students could interact with people from various careers that attracted their attention.

Failing health now prevents him from attending regularly and the Board has seen fit to invite him to maintain his affiliation with our club in the capacity of "Honorary Member".

Service to Rotary also led Bob to become involved with the Merry Makers a volunteer organisation that helps mentally challenged young people through dance. More information is available by visiting our webpage.

This section of our website has been offered to Bob so that he may share with us a lifetime of Rotary service.
