Young Carers' Outing to Luna Park

My daughter and her friend really enjoyed Funday at Luna Park. They got along with the other children and the volunteers were absolutely great to them. Thank you so much for organising this wonderful event.

In conjunction with Willoughby Council and the State Health Department the Community Services Committee arranged for a group of young teenagers with responsibilities for other family members to be treated to a fun day out at Luna Park.

These young people were treated to a special day just for themselves and, along with the fun factor, they were provided with the opportunity to meet and talk with members of their very special peer group.

"It was a joy to be part of this special day and to witness the smiles," said Community Chair, Tony Basten. "The Carers displayed a much greater knowledge of Luna Park and its attractions than us "oldies" so, once we got there, it was more a matter of us following them. Luckily we were all easily recognisable by our red hats."

At lunch time everyone adjourned to a nearby park to enjoy a healthy lunch from a pack that had been prepared by our President's wife, Hazel.

Although this was balanced somewhat by afternoon snacks.

Of course it wasn't exactly all work and no play for the adult team either

"This is another example of our Club working with other community groups to Build Better Communities," said Peter Timmermann, "and our thanks go to Louise Geaghan (Aged and Disability Services Co-ordinator, Willoughby City Council) and Megan Evans (Young Carers Project Officer, Northern Sydney Carer Support Service) for their contribution to this fun event."

It is now anticipated that this will become a regular event on our Rotary Calendar.
