Musical Scholarship 2010

Young Musician Honoured

Gordan Waterhouse Memorial Music Scholarship

Michael Alex

Michael Augenicos, a student at Chatswood High School was the 2010 winner of the Gordon Waterhouse Memorial Music Scholarship.

The award was contested by five talented young musicians who attend the local High Schools and were in years 11 and 12. Three of them were saxophonists, one a flautist and, for the first time since the award was initiated, one was a vocalist. The event, organised once again by Rotarian Noel Cislowski and was held in a local theatre before a record crowd of Rotarians, family members, friends and representatives from the schools.

Michael was the first jazz musician to win the Scholarship. He has since won several jazz awards and has now become a regular player with the James Morrison groups.

“This is an outstanding Scholarship. It certainly brings out some brilliant student performers.”

School Music Teacher

“To my knowledge this Award is the only one of its kind. It makes it even more valuable. These six high schools are so lucky to have this offered each year.”

David Saffir, Concertmaster Willoughby Symphony Orchestra
