Building better communities

Rotary is ordinary people around the world sharing their professional skills and working together in a social environment to build better communities.

We operate as a club with weekly meetings developed around a guest speaker or special event where business, community and service issues are discussed in an interactive and relaxed atmosphere.

Vale Yvonne Carfrae

Yvonne Carfrae, wife of Rotary Club Past President, Bruce Carfrae PHF, and long time Rotary supporter, passed away on 16 August in New York while visiting her son. It is her family's wish that a fund be set up in her memory to support The Rotary Club of Chatswood's important work. Her tireless dedication to her family, friends and her contribution to charity left a lasting impression on everybody who knew and met her. Yvonne was a remarkable, loving and compassionate person. Support of this worthy initiative will continue to provide assistance to the needy and underprivileged in our community, and ensure her good work will always be remembered.
If you would like to donate in Yvonne's memory please download and return the attached form or refer to our donations page.

Donation to Lifeline

At the annual Changeover Dinner, held this year at Chatswood Golf Club, outgoing President, Mr Alan Hall-Watson, presented a cheque for AUD $10,000 to Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury CEO, Ms Wendy Carver. This brings the Club's total donation to Lifeline for the Rotary Year ending 30 June to AUD $40,000.
In accepting the cheque Wendy said, "Chatswood Rotary Club helps Lifeline save lives. Chatswood Rotary's on-going financial support is providing vital assistance and contributing to Lifeline's services continued operations.  Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury has been facing its own struggle to raise enough funds to keep providing its wide range of counselling and community services and the support of Chatswood Rotary has been magnificent.  The growing and on-going relationship between the two organisations is most important to Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury and greatly appreciated.

Among the attendees were Governor Rotary District 9680, George Papallo, Mayor of Willoughby City, Cr Pat Reilly and State Member for Willoughby, Gladys Berejiklian MP.

Young Musician Honoured

Gordon Waterhouse Memorial Scholarship

Michael Alex

Michael Augenicos, a student at Chatswood High School, has been awarded this year’s Gordon Waterhouse Memorial Music Scholarship.

The award was contested by five talented young musicians who attend the local High Schools and were in years 11 and 12. Three of them were saxophonists, one a flautist and, for the first time since the award was initiated, one was a vocalist. The event, organised once again by Rotarian Noel Cislowski and was held in a local theatre before a record crowd of Rotarians, family members, friends and representatives from the schools.

“This is an outstanding Scholarship. It certainly brings out some brilliant student performers.”

School Music Teacher

“To my knowledge this Award is the only one of its kind. It makes it even more valuable. These six high schools are so lucky to have this offered each year.”

David Saffir, Concertmaster Willoughby Symphony Orchestra
