“Wow, I didn’t think I could have such a great time and still learn so much about Leadership all in one week!” ... (Dani)
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a week long residential program for people between 18-27 years old. Designed to develop leadership and social skills, attendees also constantly tell us how surprised they were about what they can achieve within themselves. Attendees undertake a series of lectures, practical activities and challenges in a commercial environment.
Originating in Queensland in 1959, this celebration of youth was part of a festival to mark Princess Alexandria visiting Australia. 300 people attended that first RYLA program which was so successful there are now approximately 300 RYLA programs throughout the world, including our newest program which is to be held in East Timor later this year – run by East Timorese people who attended RYLA here in Sydney – very exciting!
The Rotary Club of Chatswood sponsors young adults aged 18-27 who live or work in the Willoughby area.

Dani Fogarty (2008) and Scott Kyd (2010) are two of our RYLARIANS who continue to be very actively involved in RYLA. Both are in the RYLA Team to plan and then conduct the RYLA program for January 2011. Well done you two!
